Narissa Steel, 90, of Adelphi, Maryland passed away on April 9 th , 2023. She was born on February 6, 1933 in South River, New Jersey to parents Michael and Charlotte Romieh. Narissa, the most loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, is survived by her husband Donald; son James (Michelle); grandsons Donald, James and Maximus. Nar was an outstanding English teacher, instructing at a high school in Louisiana while her husband worked on his doctorate degree at Louisiana State University. She went on to teach at DuVal High School (Lanham, MD) and then to teach at Forestville High School (Forestville, MD), where she also served as the head tennis coach. Nar was a marvelous painter of oil, watercolor and miniature works. She did not begin to paint until her mid-sixties, however, she garnered many first-place prize awards as an artist. For nine years, Nar was the owner of the Cobblestone Art Gallery in Old Town, VA. She also served as the President of The Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers Society of Washington, D.C. One of Nar’s great loves was tennis and, although she won many championships, she found the most pleasure in teaching others the game. Nar was a voracious reader. As a teacher for The Literacy Council of Montgomery County, she taught many adults how to read – an accomplishment that she was most proud of. Nar and Don had a warm, loving relationship and were married for 67 years.
