Albert L. Eckstorm

Albert Lewis Eckstorm, 88 years young, passed away on January 18, 2022, peacefully surrounded by family. Born in Washington, DC January 25, 1933, he was the third child of William J. and Mary A. (Harden) Eckstorm, both of whom were preceded in death.

Albert served in the Army during the Korean War, and was a career telephone repair man in Washington, DC.  He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and Pioneers  volunteer network.  Albert was a devout Catholic, Patriot, and family man. In 1966, he met the love of his life, Janet R. (Greaves) Eckstorm and soon married. His heart was broken when she passed after a long fight with cancer in 1987.

Albert is survived by their two loving daughters, Mary Jo Eckstorm, and Lisa (Michael) Stoddard.  Albert, “Pop Pop,” was actively involved with and deeply loved his grandchildren:  Janet Mallon, Erin (James) Elligson, Michael Stoddard, Jr., and Matthew Stoddard, and great grandchild: Connor Elligson.

Also preceded in death were his siblings:  William “Bill” Eckstorm, Jr., Alice Karuzas, and Winifred (Floyd) Bost.

Remaining close family members include: Sister-in-law Martha Eckstorm and numerous nieces and nephews: Mary Karkan, Richard Karuzas, Jr., Clifford Eckstorm, William John Eckstorm, III, Kaye Pennock, Alice Karuzas, Karen Worthman, Joseph Eckstorm, and Donna Culbertson.

Albert had a passion for spending quality time with family and friends, fishing, crabbing, hunting, and conservation of the earth.  He was also noted for loving a good meal “that’s fittin,” a good drink of Johnny Walker Black, or a Blue Moon. All who knew him, loved this exceptionally kind and gentle soul.

Friends may call at Donald V. Borgwardt Funeral Home 4400 Powder Mill Rd. Beltsville, MD 20705 on Thursday February 3rd from 6 to 8 pm.  A Mass of Cristian Burial will be held on Friday February 4th at St. Francis of Assisi 8300 Old Columbia Rd, Fulton, MD 20759 at 10am.  The funeral will be live streamed on the parish YouTube channel and can be reached by clicking on this link: https://www.youtube.com/c/StFrancisAssisiParish/live . The link can also be found on the parish website www.instrumentofpeace.org . Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton, MD.
