Alvin F. Jenkins, Sr.

March 30, 1941 — September 26, 2023

Beltsville, Maryland

Alvin Franklin Jenkins – went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at the age of 82. He is survived by his dedicated wife Pam Jenkins (of Beltsville, MD), his two sons - A.J. Jenkins and wife Angela (of Byhalia, MS) and Callie Jenkins and wife Stacy (of Boca Raton, FL) and his two beautiful grandchildren – Morgan and Jimmy Jenkins.

Alvin was born on March 30, 1941 in Washington, DC. He lived most of his life in the Berwyn and Beltsville area. His legacy can be found in his Rags to Riches story – one that is emphasized with hard work, sacrifice, and commitment to provide for his immediate family as well as many others in need. When Alvin was sixteen his father died, forcing him to quit school to help his mother provide for his siblings. He worked at a gas station and sold wreathes door-to-door to help his mother feed the family and pay the bills. His sacrifice allowed his family to keep their family home and ensured that his younger siblings were able to finish high school.

He was a multitalented entrepreneur and always had at least three businesses going on at once. He bought his first business, a Sunoco Gas Station, at the age of 18. He owned and operated Jenkins Garage which has been a staple on US-1 in College Park for close to 50 years. He was the owner of Jenko Trucking in Berwyn, C & R Industries (a recycling antifreeze company) in Hyattsville, and several Jenkins Salvage/Junk yards in Beltsville and College Park. In his younger years, he was a Stationary Engineer at Holy Cross Hospital. Though he was a shrewd businessman, he had a soft spot for his beloved pitbulls – BoBo, Zeus and Thor and German Shepherd - Cindy. In later years, his love for animals extended to several junkyard and garage lot cats, which he fed daily.

A fixture in the community, the College Park “OG“- Alvin Franklin Jenkins - the Man, the Myth, the Legend he was highly regarded and often thought of by many as...“Larger than Life”. His Aura, his Presence, his Shine and his Voice filled every room he walked into. His loss will be felt greatly by his best friend and his brother Leo Jenkins (wife Kathy) of Thurmont, MD, as well as by his sister Arlene Searles Jenkins of Elkridge, MD. He leaves behind many nephews and nieces that loved him dearly and is remembered by his special nephew Dominick (Nick) Compofelice and by many special friends.

He is proceeded in death by: father Callie Jenkins, mother Susie D. Bailey Jenkins; brothers - Cornelius (Corny) Jenkins, Kenneth (Kenny) Jenkins and Jerry Jenkins; sisters - Darlene Bronz and Delores (Lois) White; brothers-in-law – Gary Compofelice and Tom Bronz; nieces Tricia Jenkins and Irene Jenkins Hart and by nephews – Allan King and Bobby White.
