Amelia Rosaline Kilborn, 94, of Greenbelt, Maryland died Friday, January 1, 2016 at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring. She had lived in the Washington Area since 1955. She was born in Athens, Maine on June 22, 1921, the eldest child of Leslie E. Martin and Letitia (Lewia) Martin. She was a graduate of Madison High School. She spent summers at Lakewood Theater taking care of the cottages of the “Stars” most notably Harry Carey Sr.. After graduating High School she left home and settled in Bridgeport, CT where she worked at the Sikorsky Airplane Factory during World War II. She was a riveter on the wing section of the Navy Corsair airplane. Her nickname was Rosie so it could be said that she was “Rosie the Riveter”. During this time she met her late husband of 54 years Roderick W. Kilborn. Amelia had a passion for sewing and worked as a seamstress for a local designer in Denver, Colorado, at the Harlequin Dinner Theater in Rockville, Md. and at the Folger Theater in Washington, DC. She also worked as a sales clerk at L.T. Henry Fabrics in Langley Park during the 70’s and 80’s and as a hardware stock replenishment clerk at the Sears in White Oak during the 80’s and 90’s until she retired. She shared her passion for sewing and teaching as a 4-H leader in Adelphi in the 60’s and 70’s. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC She is survived by three daughters, Karen Kilborn of Greenbelt, Beth Schaefer of Silver Spring and Cheryl Kilbourne-Kimpton of New York, three grandchildren, Max, Jack and Abby and several nieces and nephews
