On Tuesday, May 22, 2024, Anne Jean Nelson (nee Bryan) passed away at the age of 90 with the love of her life, Roy, by her side hand in hand.
Anne was born in Chicago, on February 12, 1934. Her family moved to Washington, D.C. where she met then married Roy in 1954. They wanted a large family and were blessed with six children who were raised in College Park, MD.
In her early years, Anne worked as a beautician at her aunt's shop. Being a Mom was her top priority and with six kids, it had to be. As a woman of faith, she found time to volunteer at Holy Redeemer School and served for many years on the Parish Bereavement Committee. Anne returned to the workforce, when life at home became less chaotic, in the Transcript Office at the University of Maryland University College. She organized the Annual Family “Beach Week” to ensure her growing family stayed close which resulted in countless memories and lasting connections. When not working or volunteering, Anne was on the phone making sure that friends and family were up-to-date on everyone and everything.
Anne was an avid reader with an impressive memory of history and family. She had a presence, an opinion (which she was always happy to discuss/debate) and imparted important life lessons along the way. She sought to "never miss" a birth, baptism, communion, dance recital, sporting activity, high school or college graduation (for children, nieces/nephews, grand and great grandchildren), no matter how far she and Roy needed to travel. Anne's example, love and care as a Wife, Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma, serves as a roadmap for us all.
Anne is preceded in death by her mom (Florence Bryan), her son, Kevin, her sister, Helen, brother-in-law, Tipper, her brother, Dave, and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry, Alva, Babe and Joanne. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Roy Nelson, and their children; Keith (Debbie), Jeanne (Ignacio), Terri (Kevin), Lisa (Gary) and Greg. Her cousins, Sharon (Dennis), Maureen and John, hold a special place in her family. Her grandchildren are Andrea, Drew (Laura), Cory (Laura), Nicole, Amber (Bryan), Kelly, the Bryans, Alexandra, Camille, Katie (Raffi), Griffin (Holly), Connor and Bri and great-grandchildren, Ava, Natalie, Charlie, Isabel, Bea, Clara, Elena, Aedan, Camila and Lilah and countless nieces, nephews and their children.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Holy Redeemer Church in her memory.
