Barbara Lynn Dwyer, 59, of Ellicott City, MD, passed away on July 10, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on February 7, 1963, in Washington, DC, to Loretta and Robert Ravenscroft and grew up in College Park, Maryland. She later attended University of Maryland, College Park. Shortly afterward, she started her 34-year long tenure at the United States Department of Agriculture as a food safety inspection officer and regulation writer. She raised her children in Ellicott City, Maryland.
Barbara’s whimsical presence brought warmth to those who knew her. To know her was to love her. She loved to travel. In recent years, she explored Asia and Europe; she went all around the US sightseeing with her children and Joe Striedl, her partner of five years. A lover of Elvis, she enjoyed visiting Graceland, one of her favorite places. She was a lover of animals, especially her dogs, Mango and Louie. She was an extraordinary mother and filled her children’s lives with love. Her passion for life inspired them to live with open hearts. She was radiant and her laugh was contagious. She lived a life that ended too soon, but it was a full and joyful one.
She was predeceased by her father, Robert Ravenscroft. She is survived by her mother, Loretta Ravenscroft, her daughter and son-in-law, Julia and John Mayotte, and her sons David and Matthew Dwyer.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage donations to Gilchrist Center Howard County, the hospice where Barbara spent the final weeks of her life.
A reception will follow the service.
