He is survived by his wife, Anita, of 46 years; his children Christy, Mandy (Mike) Tayag, Matt (Sandy An); granddaughter Emily; brother George (Mary); nephew Scott (Rose), nieces Kim (Mike) Smith, Dawn (JC) Shakespeare, and Tammy (Ron) Mastin; and nephew Mike (Hazel) Garner. Brad is predeceased by his father George S. Garner; mother, Anne Garner, and son Nick Garner.
"Today I had to say 'goodbye' to someone I have had the privilege of knowing for 71 years. This man was a devoted husband and father, a wonderful uncle, and a great brother. Brad was an Army vet who did a tour in Vietnam when the fighting was the hottest. He was at the first Tet Offensive, and received an honorable discharge. After leaving the Army, he joined the Prince George's County Police Department where he spent 25 years serving the county before retiring.
Brad was involved with the Dematha Football Team for many years where he served in many capacities- coach, equipment man, and just all around booster. Every Christmas he looked forward to putting on his red suit and white beard to play Santa Claus at Behnke's where his wife worked, and where I understand he did one bang-up job! He loved making the kids happy. Brad was someone you could always count on when needed. Brother, I will miss our talks, but most of all I will miss you. The world has lost a great man." - George Garner
