Born in Takoma Park, he attended and graduated from Shenandoah Academy and the University of Maryland with a BA in Radio, TV and Film working his way through college as a shipwright on both the Anacostia and Potomac Rivers for over 40 years, he restored multiple wooden yachts, including the Presidential Yacht called the Sequoia. His strive for perfection and attention to detail gave him the nickname "Rumbrant" on the waterfront because he loved a rum and coke after work each night. He was a brilliant storyteller, loved trivia and joke telling.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Gay Ruth; nieces, Theresa Bechler (husband, John), Sally Rollins (husband, Rob), Katlyn Doedevic (husband, David); and nephew, Kenneth Horney (wife, Tina); Also survived by Susan Craig, Marina and Mark Eggeleston, Leslie Parker; predeceased by nephews, James B. Craig and Dean Parker, who Gay and Brian helped raise.
