Calvin D. Fletcher

Calvin Donald “Donnie” Fletcher was born March 3rd, 1954, in Colchester Connecticut to the late Ruby and Calvin Fletcher.  Calvin was a fun-loving, inquisitive child who grew up in a close-knit family community surrounded by his siblings and many cousins.

Calvin was educated in the Colchester School System and attended Bacon Academy, where he received his High School Diploma as a proud member of the Class of 1972.  He was an excellent athlete throughout his High School career.  He played Baseball, Soccer, and Basketball where he lettered in all. He was named in his senior year of high school to the (1972) New Haven Register Newspaper Boys Basketball All-State (Honorable Mention) team.
Calvin, the first in his family to attend college, continued his education at North Carolina Central University where he majored in Political Science. As an undergraduate, he joined Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and crossed over in Spring 1973. Calvin treasured his time at NCCU, as it was here that he met many life-long friends.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in May 1976.
He attended Howard University Law School in Washington, D.C., and later moved to Southern California to attend Western State University School of Law.  Calvin thoroughly enjoyed his time in California as he often reminisced about the great times he had and the people he met, including his wife LaDonna.

Calvin joined the defense and government contracting sector where he was employed by various companies including Northrup Grumman, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, CSC, and several others.  He was a firm believer in bettering oneself through education and briefly was called to teach in the District of Columbia and Prince George’s County Public School Systems. Calvin had an unmatched work ethic and was a highly sought-after professional with a fulfilling career.

Calvin joined Glendale Baptist Church (now The Sanctuary at Kingdom Square) in the late 1990s.  He loved God and served in the Athletics Ministry as a Basketball coach.  He had daily devotion to the Lord and would often share the message with his close family.

A man of many interests, Calvin had so many different passions.  He was a fan of the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys, although they both often left him heartbroken.  He loved to play golf and basketball and would tell anyone he encountered about his “Glory Days” on the court.  Calvin came from a line of guitar gurus, and was most determined to follow in the family's footsteps; recently deciding to take up lessons.  He had an eclectic music taste but especially enjoyed The Beatles and Earth Wind and Fire.  More than anything, he loved telling jokes and spending time with family and friends.

Calvin transitioned on to be with the Lord suddenly on the morning of May 7, 2023, surrounded by family. Calvin leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife Ladonna Hopkins, adoring daughter Jaclyn Fletcher-Hopkins (Steven), beloved loyal family pet London “Poochie” Fletcher, son Justin Fletcher, grandsons Skyler Fletcher and Vincent Argumedo; his siblings Jeffery Fletcher (Barbara) and Jacqueline Moore (Gary), Kim Reeves; Special Niece Carlalyn Trent; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members. Calvin was preceded in death by his loving parents Calvin and Ruby Fletcher, and sisters Carol Fletcher and Brenda Fletcher-Trent.

Calvin will always be remembered for his charismatic personality; never without a smile on his face or a joke to tell, his jovial aura, infamous dance moves, but most importantly his caring heart and undeniable ability to give to others.  He was an extremely kind and generous man who was able to see the good in everyone and embrace them fully and wholeheartedly regardless of their shortcomings.  He was a compassionate, welcoming man who never met a stranger and always had a joke to tell.  Calvin continually went above and beyond for those he cared for, making everyone’s life he touched a better place.  He will be greatly missed, beyond measure.
