Carolyn Hicks

September 29, 1936 — April 19, 2021

Beltsville, MD

Carolyn Maud Jones Hicks went home to Jesus on April 19, 2021 at the age of 84.

Carolyn was born to Zebil and Violet Jones on September 29, 1936 in Crumpler, West Virginia.

Carolyn met her husband, Clarence, in 1955 at the roller-skating rink in Belle, West Virginia. They would often double date with Carolyn’s younger sister Florence Jones and Clarence’s good friend Glenn Brown. Carolyn and Clarence married on August 30, 1958. They went on to have 4 children, Cheryl, Carla, Chris, and Colette.

Carolyn was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Carolyn was our biggest cheerleader, our constant supporter, and the rock of the family. Our family would not be where it is today if we did not have Carolyn as a mother.

In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother, Carolyn also loved gardening (especially her roses), reading, afternoon tea, and spending time with her good friends. Carolyn delighted in joining her family on annual trips to the beach and hosting Christmas Eve at her home for her large extended family and friends. Carolyn also enjoyed duckpin bowling, attending Dinner Theater, and spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Carolyn was an original resident of Calverton, building a house and moving into the development in 1965. Carolyn was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist church in Beltsville for over 50 years, where she sang in the church choir. In addition, she was a highly active member of the United Methodist Women (UMW) and held multiple offices including President and Secretary.

Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her in such a way that it made you feel blessed.

Carolyn joins her husband, Clarence in Heaven. She is survived by her children: Cheryl Montgomery (Steve), Carla Colvin (Stuart), Chris Hicks (Larissa), Colette Burgess (Sean), 15 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
