Carrie Mathilda Entzian Armiger, 89, of Mitchellville, MD, passed away peacefully at home on 26 February 2023, surrounded by her family. Born 1 January 1934 on the Haas family farm in Davidsonville, MD, she was the second daughter of five girls to the late Oscar Herman and Josephine Louise (nee Haas) Entzian of Mitchellville, MD. She was preceded in death by three of her sisters, Ella (David) Hopkins, Sr., Dorothy (Howard) Thieme and Margaret "Cookie" Entzian; and, brothers-in-law, Larry M. Slauson and W. Donald Armiger, Sr.
Carrie, lovingly known as “Sissy” by her family, enjoyed being outside and when given the option as a young girl to either learn to cook or work on the farm, she chose to work on the farm with her Father. She started her formal education at the Mullikin School and went on to graduate valedictorian, from Frederick Sasscer High School in 1952. With her DO IT RIGHT attitude, she began working at Farm Credit soon after graduation and then the Enquirer Gazette newspaper, both in Upper Marlboro, MD. In 1960 she met the love of her life, James F. (Frank) Armiger, Jr., and on 27 May 1961 they wed and began their life together in Mitchellville, MD, where they raised their two girls. In 1968, Carrie began working for the Prince George’s County Board of Elections, retiring in 1998, after serving her county for 30 years. Carrie was a member of First Lutheran Church of Bowie, where she was actively involved in many groups and loved serving her Lord. In her retirement she enjoyed spending time with family, farming, gardening, going to church and helping others.
In addition to her devoted husband of 62 years, she is survived by her loving daughters, Lisa (Gary) Bednarik and Jennifer (Erik) Armiger-Baten; adoring grandchildren, Sarah Bednarik, Erik II and Emerson Baten, all of Mitchellville, MD; and her devoted kitty cat, Louie.
