Catherine "Cathy" J. Kurtz

It is with profound grief and sadness that we announce the passing of our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Cathy Kurtz. She left us on January 15, 2022, after intense efforts to save her at Adventist White Oak Medical Center. She was 62 years old.

Cathy was born to Melvin and Nancy Hilbert on April 7, 1959 in Connersville, Indiana where she grew up with her three siblings Debbie, John and Mike. She married Ron Kurtz on April 26, 2008 at a garden ceremony in Sandy Spring Maryland. Ron and Cathy enjoyed long walks, bike riding, old movies, and going to concerts together. She loved to talk, and he loved to listen. They would often chat about family, food, politics, geography, history, and the list goes on. They were looking forward to retiring to the mountains in Western North Carolina, as Cathy loved the mountain vistas.

Cathy was an excellent cook. She loved spending time in the kitchen, creating amazing meals for her family and friends. She was extremely outgoing, had a joyful smile, and was compassionate and caring towards others. Cathy will be remembered for her strong Christian faith, her devotion to prayer, and her tireless efforts to help others.

The love Cathy had for her family and friends was only superseded by the love she had for her Savior, Jesus Christ. Cathy was motivated by her deep, convictional belief that the Lord graciously placed others in her life to point them back to Him. She often quoted the Scripture that God’s will was for “...all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:3-6 KJV). She believed that God’s plan for salvation was only made available through the saving and finished work of Christ on the cross.

Cathy is survived by her husband, Ron Kurtz. She was a proud mother to daughter Brooke MacLean (Don) and son Zachary Pittinger (Maegan). She was a caring stepmother to Alex Kurtz and Aquyna Kurtz and a loving grandmother to Kyle, Blake, and Trent MacLean, Alice Kurtz and Luna Schaeffer. All of her grandchildren fondly referred to her as their “Cece”.

A celebration of her life is scheduled for 10am on January 28, 2022 at Grace Community Church, 8200 Old Columbia Road, Fulton, Maryland 20759.
