Cesar Augustus Braxton

September 4, 1952 — January 13, 2020

Beltsville

Luke 23:43

And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”

On January 13th, at 6:15 pm, the Lord Our Savior summoned Cesar Augustus Braxton to rest. Cesar left this earth at the age of 67, quietly, at peace and without reservation.  Cesar was loved by many. . . many that knew him and many that knew of him. He was a kind man, a strong spirit, and loved his family and friends unconditionally.

Born on September 4, 1952, he was the 4th child and baby boy of Charles Augustus and Queen Esther Braxton. To Cesar, his father was “Superman” and his mother, who he saw as an extension of his dad, was the fundamental glue that held it all together.

Cesar was educated in his hometown of Aylett in King William County, Virginia, and upon completing his education, volunteered to serve in the U.S. Air Force. Shortly thereafter, he was sent to Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, where he served as a weapons mechanic and armorer with a top secret security clearance. Cesar served 645 days in Southeast Asia and was honorably discharged on November 11, 1975.

After his military service, Cesar worked as a carpenter, and he was good at it. He was well versed in the field and supervised on many work sites in Florida and the Washington DC area. Later, he began a career in contractor sales at the well-known Hechinger’s, right up until they closed their doors. Then, he decided to try his hand at car sales where it was said that he could sell a glass of water to a drowning man.

Cesar married Marty Newton on February 19, 1997, and to that union a daughter, Jessica Blair, was born. He adored his daughter, who he affectionately called “Boochie.” Prior to his marriage to Marty, Cesar was married to Minnie Hollis and of that marriage his son, Charles Terrell, was born. He also gained another son, John Michael Hollis, from that marriage. Cesar loved these boys to his core, and was proud of their accomplishments and how successfully they led their lives, even during periods of his absence.

Cesar loved woodworking, fast trucks, collecting antiques and Westerns, and was a faithful watcher of The Price is Right. He was a huge lover of dogs, and if he could have, he would have rescued every dog that needed a home and shelter.

No matter where he was, Cesar would always share vivid memories of his childhood, and tell the best stories, some very fascinating and some really quite unbelievable.  His jokes could make you laugh until tears ran down your cheeks, and he had many sayings for any variety of situations. For instance, if you were faced with a challenge & had to make a hard decision of some sort, he would say: “Don’t worry about the horse going blind, just stay in the saddle and hold the line.” Cesar carried no malice in his heart. He was a simple man, who loved simple things, and he lived a simple life.

Cesar leaves to mourn his passing & treasure his memory, Marty, his wife of 22 years; his daughter, Jessica Blair Braxton Quilit (Jedidiah); sons Charles Terrell Braxton (Jessica) & John Michael Hollis (Adriana); sister Carrie Webster; brother Calvin Braxton; grandchildren Gabriella and Carter; nieces and nephews Charlene Snowden, Queen Webster, Calvin Braxton, Jr., Terri Sharp (Gary), Kim Beverly (Larry), Reginald Frost, Clinton Frost (Dionne), Patricia Frost; sisters-in-law Norma Mullins (Stanley); Patricia DeVillars (Donald); Joyce Gatewood (Earl); Lelia McMullen (Clifton); his beloved dog Caleb; and a host of other relatives and friends.
