Charles B. Hiep

May 27, 1938 — July 8, 2018

Of Alexandria, VA, died July 8, 2018 at home in Silver Spring, MD with his life partner Susan Hill at his side. Charlie was born May 27, 1938 in New York City, the son of Charles and Lillian Harding Hiep. He served in the U.S. Navy Officer Reserves while earning a BS and MS in Engineering. After his honorable discharge in 1967, he was employed as a civilian engineer with the Department of the Navy until his retirement in 1993.

An avid Washington Redskins football fan and 40-year Season Ticket Holder, Charlie enjoyed dancing, softball, playing the trumpet in various bands, socializing with friends and family, and getting bargains while grocery shopping. He loved animals and always had his pockets filled with dog treats and peanuts for the neighborhood dogs, birds, and squirrels.

He is survived by his son Charles (Chuck) Hiep, his partner Susan, grandchildren Julia and Joseph Hiep, daughter-in-law Lorena Hiep, as well as Susan’s daughters Jodi and Melissa and grandchildren Sara, Mason, Laird, and Lucy.  His marriage to Veronica Klein nee Quinn ended in divorce in 1968. Charlie was preceded in death by his younger brother Kenneth Hiep.

A service will be held at Riderwood Village Chapel in Silver Spring, MD on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 11 am with a luncheon following.  The interment will be Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at 11:45 am at the Lutheran All Faiths Cemetery in Middle Village, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to CurePSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) at www.psp.org
