Charlie was born in California on November 22, 1928 to Mary Catherine (Roeder) Marston and Percival Franklin Marston. Charlie and his mother came to Silver Spring, Maryland when he was an infant, and they remained here. He was raised as an only child by a single mother, a doting grandmother, his special “Aunt” Katie, and several loving aunts and uncles. He attended local schools, served in the U. S. Army in Korea from 1950-1953, and worked for 35 years on Capitol Hill, most of that time as the Assistant Superintendent of the House of Representatives Press Gallery where he served under 8 presidents. He retired in 1979. In 1981, he began working as a Prince George’s County School bus driver, which he loved doing. All of his bus “kids” called him Uncle Charlie, which just delighted him, and many kept in touch with him after they were no longer on his bus route. He worked there for 12 years before having to retire when he began taking insulin. He worked an additional 3 years driving a bus for senior citizens in College Park. Charlie and Edie traveled across the country in 1991 and 1993. They have many photos, memories and stories from these trips. During one of the trips to California, Charlie met his half-sister Judy (Marston) Nelson and her husband Jim for the first time in his life. The four of them had a great time together and Charlie and Judy have kept in contact since. He has another half-sister in California, Gayle Marston, whom he never met. Charlie is survived by his wife of 55 years. Edie was his devoted companion, especially in these more recent years as his illness took over his life. Thankfully, he was able to be with his family and friends in his home for the past two months. This brought him great comfort and serenity. He is also survived by his son Gary (Lisa) Marston, and daughters Linda (Neil) Dicken and Nancy (Jeff) Dudley, as well as six grandchildren who thought the world of their Pop Pop: Andrew and Brian Dicken, Shelley, Jamie and Nathan Dudley, and Kevin Marston.
