Constance M. Lawrence

April 15, 1936 — June 3, 2023

Constance May Lawrence (nee Grace) was born on April 15, 1936 in Kingston, Jamaica to the late Cyril Edgar and Elma Louise Grace, the second of five children with siblings Claire, Louis, Clive and Michael. A bright young woman, she earned the Royal Society of Arts certifications while attending Kingston Technical High School. After high school at a time when women in Jamaica rarely pursued higher education, she attended the College of Arts, Science and Technology. where she became fluent in Spanish. Connie was also a soldier in the Royal British Army in Jamaica. At the age of 21, she married Vivian Lawrence and the union produced two children, Hugh and Erica. As a working Mom, she later worked at Jamaica Milk Products in Kingston Jamaica.

An adventurous and ambitious young women, Constance emigrated to Canada in the 1960s. She soon seized an opportunity to flee the cold Canadian winters, to accept a position at the World Bank in Washington DC. At the World Bank she had an enjoyable career of over 32 years as an executive secretary and program analyst

After retiring, Constance relocated to Burtonsville Maryland to dote on her grandchildren and share in the affections of her devoted family. She also worked part-time at KES Engineering in Burtonsville. Her most rewarding post- retirement position however was as secretary for her beloved church, Calverton Baptist.

A two-time 20 year cancer survivor, on Saturday June 3, 2023 at the age of 87, the Lord called Aunt Con home, freeing her from yet another bout of cancer. Aunt Con, loving mother, daughter, sister and friend, transitioned peacefully in Bowie, MD surrounded by family.

All who met our beloved Connie/Con/Aunt Con/Mummy will remember her as a voracious reader, grammar aficionado, apt learner, fashion savant, and a dependable and loving companion. She had a big heart and was extremely generous, giving gifts to everyone that she met - even relative strangers. We will miss her gentle helping hands, wise advice, giving spirit, and quick wit.

Lovingly embraced in God's light, Constance Lawrence (Aunt Con) joins her parents, brother Louie, sister Claire, and son-in-law Anthony. She leaves behind: her brothers Clive (Winsome) and Michael, children Hugh (Sheran), Erica (Trio), Kayanne (Greg), Gary (Charlene), Judithanne; cousins: James (Simone), Althea, Angela, and Patrick (Merelyn); nephews and nieces: Jennifer, Howard, Warren, Marlene, Maurice, Oliver, Leijaughn, Patricia, and Nathaniel; grandchildren: Antonio, Rashanna, Kamar (Asia), Kerianne (David), Korine, Synquae, Christopher, Tyra, Tyi, Marquise, Justin, Justina, Aleaha, Tiara, Jonathan, and Gary JR; and great-grandchildren Nikolas, Leighna, Caleb, Helaina, Salayah, and Raine.
