Daniel Issac Chavez

October 6, 1980 — July 23, 2021

Daniel Chavez, a loving father and son, leader to many, and a friend to all--passed away due to COVID-19 on July 23, 2021 at Broward Health Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He was surrounded by his loving children and son-in-law. He was 40-years-old.

He was born on October 06, 1980 in San Miguel, El Salvador to Maria Ticas and Rene Chavez. In 1984, he migrated to the United States and grew up to accomplish his American dream. He enjoyed mastering Kung Fu during his childhood years. He was united in marriage to Heily Caldera in 2002. Years later, the marriage ended in divorce. Two children were born to this union, one daughter and one son. He is survived by his daughter, Leilani Chavez and his son, Joshua Chavez who he raised as an extraordinary single father.

Daniel worked as a Roofing Superintendent for 21 years at RRH Associates LLC, and was particularly known for his pleasant greetings. Daniel was a perfectionist since birth. As a roofer and handyman, he made sure everything was perfect. He took pride in his work. When asked “what do you do?”, he responded “I do it all”. He was a hardworking man. After a long day of work, he always came home with a smile, happy to see his children. He enjoyed receiving feet, head, and body massages from his children and watching TV. He also enjoyed listening to his son read Bible scriptures as he went to sleep.

Daniel was a world traveler from the beginning to the end. He loved traveling. It was not only a passion, but a tradition for his family. He started that tradition with his children, which will be continued. Every year, he was excited to explore the beauties of the world with his best friends, his children. One thing Daniel always admired while on vacation were the variety of birds that resided in each country. He enjoyed feeding and watching the birds at his home every morning. His favorite birds were the red cardinals and blue jays.

He will be remembered for his amiable, affable, and loving spirit, his wise advice, his listening ear, his unfailing work ethic, his generous smile that lit up a room, and his willingness to be there for anyone who needed help.

In his last month, when the COVID-19 virus robbed him of his physical strength, it also gave him a softness we treasured. During this time, he taught us how to have faith in the Lord and to trust in God’s plans. He taught us how to be thankful for everything we have and to live each day filled with positivity and love. He taught us how to be strong. Not one day went by that he did not trust in the Lord during his battle with COVID-19.

His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his adoring children Leilani Chavez and Joshua Chavez; his son-in-law Jose Mayen; his parents Maria Ticas and Rene Chavez; his brothers Rene Chavez, Alvin Mercado, and Kenny Mercado; his relatives, friends, and boss.

He will be missed!
