Dewitt Blackmon Sr.

August 9, 1939 — April 12, 2024

Dewitt Blackmon was born August 9, 1939, to his late parents Leroy and Annie Blackmon in a little town called Ruby in Chesterfield, South Carolina.

His family moved to Connecticut where he went to school and lived in his younger years.

Dewitt graduated from high school in New Haven, Connecticut. After high school he joined the U.S. Army for 3 years. After serving his time in the service he met and married Sarah Rich January 6, 1971.

He then moved down to North Carolina with his family.

Dewitt worked in various jobs and occupations, he worked in cooking, photography, truck driver and cleaning. His cleaning career helped him to establish his own cleaning company, Blackmon Enterprises, in North Carolina.

Dewitt moved one more time to Greenbelt, Md where he lived out his last years. He loved to work so he always wanted to work even when he couldn't work anymore.

He had a strong love for his grandchildren. He would always ask "how are my grandkids?" He always wanted to see them and spend time with them.

Dewitt transitioned peacefully at Casey House in Rockville, MD.

Dewitt leaves to cherish his memory is his loving wife Sarah Blackmon, daughter Denita Johnson, son in law Eric Johnson, son Dewitt Blackmon Jr. Grandchildren Eric Johnson, Caleb Blackmon, Salena Johnson, Dora Johnson, TyJee Blackmon, Lyric Blackmon, Alberta Johnson, Isaac Johnson, Sarah Johnson, and Matthew Johnson. Great granddaughters Za'Nyla Lattimore, Mi'Zouria Johnson, and Delilah Blackmon, brother Rufus Blackmon, sister Beatrice Neston, favorite niece Robin Garlin, favorite cousin Dollie, and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, extended family and friends.

Dewitt, you fought a good fight, but God knew that you were tired, so he called you to come on home. I knew you were tired and that you waited to rest. Sleep on my love, take your rest, your journey's over, you passed the test.
