Donald “Don” K. Collary, 85, was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, father-in-law, and brother-in-law. Don was born in Martinsburg, Pennsylvania on August 11th, 1938 and later relocated to Beltsville, Maryland. Don attended business school at the Altoona School of Commerce and graduated with a degree in accounting. He was then drafted into the U.S. Army where he served from 1961-1963. Upon his return he married the love of his life, Dona Hartman. He spent his professional career working as an accountant for Marriott and then, later, for Pargas Propane. Don passed away on Thursday, February 1st, 2024.
Don is survived by his wife (Dona Hartman Collary); son (Donald “Scott” Collary), daughter-in-law (Siobhan Sheppard), and grandchildren (Ryan Collary, Lauren Collary, and Miles Sheppard); daughter (Kim Collary Langway), grandchildren (Troy Langway and Brittany Langway), grand-daughter-in-law (Cathy Langway), and great-grandson (Blake Langway); sister (Dolores Meyers), brother-in-law (Arthur “Mickey” Meyers); brother-in-law (Ron Hartman); and many other close relatives. Don’s fatherly devotion was illustrated through the various roles he served in his childrens’ lives which included troop leader for the Boy Scouts of America, baseball coach for the Beltsville Boys and Girls club, and member of the Beltsville Swim Club. In his spare time Don loved puzzles, baking, photography, attending his grand-childrens’ sporting events, building computers, and spending time with family. He was extremely creative and possessed a great deal of historical knowledge which he loved sharing with others.
We request all of Don’s loved ones to join us in celebrating his life at Donald V. Borgwardt Funeral Home on Saturday, February 17th, 2024. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service. A celebration of life will continue after the service.
