Dorothy Emma Decker died peacefully at Angels Garden, Silver Spring, Maryland on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, just 13 days short of her 99th birthday. Dorothy was the daughter of Jacob and Louise Bladt and was born and raised in Washington, D.C. After her marriage to Harold Decker, Sr., (deceased), she raised her family in College Park and later in Beltsville, Maryland, where she was active in her church and several civic clubs and groups. She is survived by her four children; son Harold Jr. (Deck) and his wife, Kathy, of Berlin, MD, and their children grandson Christopher and great-grandsons Aaron, Kevin, grandson Joseph and his wife, Erin, great-grandson Ramsey, and granddaughter Kacey; son John of Pearl City, Hawaii, and his son Sean, granddaughter Jessica and great-granddaughter Zuri; daughter Jeanne Fahrner and her husband, Jeff, of Frederick, MD, and their children granddaughter Laura Johnson and her husband, Peter, and great-grandchildren Bennett, Marie, Emma and Sean, granddaughter Katie Vernon and her husband, Corey, and great-grandchildren Judah, Kathryn and Evelyn, granddaughter Emily Crowell and her husband Adam, grandson Michael and his wife Abby and great-grandchildren Anna, Jeremiah and Ellie, and; son Ron and his wife, Bridget, of Cave Creek, AZ. and grandchildren William (deceased), Liam and Emma.

Dorothy, or Aunt Dottie as she was lovingly known, is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to her husband and precious grandson, she was also preceded in death by her siblings, Helen, Jack, Rob and Frances.

Dorothy graduated from McKinley Tech. High School in Washington, D.C. After graduation she worked at Garfinckel’s Department Store as a secretary. After her marriage, she and her husband, Harold, lived in Washington, D.C. for a couple years. Following the birth of their first child they moved to College Park, MD where they lived for 16 years, and then moved to Beltsville, MD. While raising her four children she also managed the bookkeeping for her husband Harold’s commercial maintenance businesses. They sold their businesses in 1979 and moved to Ocean City, MD where they took a position as the resident managers of the Irene Condominium. After nine years, they decided to fully retire and moved back to their home in Beltsville.

Services will be held at an as yet undecided time and place. Information will be forthcoming. Dorothy will be interred in the columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery (date to be determined) where she will rest beside her late husband, Harold, and will have the honor of resting at Arlington along with her mother, father, brother Jacob (Jack), brother Rob and his wife, Pat.
