Dorothy "Dottie" Gean Weitz

May 24, 1945 — January 20, 2022

Dorothy Gean Weitz, also known as Dot or Dottie to her friends and family, was born in Washington, D.C. on May 24, 1945 to Guy and Edith Hendershot.  She was their youngest child and only daughter.  She had one brother, Glen, and they spent their younger years in Washington, D.C. until their family home was built in Langley Park, MD.  Dottie Graduated from High Point High School, where her artistic talents came to the attention of many.  Her talents led her to be recruited straight from High School to work as an apprentice draftsman for AT&T.  She was a quick learner and very good at drafting that she then was recruited to work at General Engineering.  There she learned Electrical Systems Design.  Eventually, Dottie’s talent and flare caught the eye of the Marriott Corp, which hired her to run their Lighting Design Department.  However, in 1992 Marriott closed down their Interior Design Department.  But that did not deter Dottie, she decided to go back to college to study something she had always wanted to do.  So that very same year, Dottie began studying Mortuary Science at Catonsville College of Baltimore County where she graduated with honors in 1995.  Her passion was to help others in their grief and she loved working as a Mortician/Funeral Director until her retirement.

She loved to travel.  Some was with her work with Marriott but her best times were with the love of her life and husband, Steve.  Together they traveled the globe visiting every continent except Antarctica, though she had hopes that one day the two of them would travel there together.  They did everything together.  In March of 1975, together they gave themselves to their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  An adventure that they most enjoyed is traveling God’s path together.

During all this, Dottie was blessed with 2 daughters, 5 grandsons, and 7 great grandchildren (3 boys and 4 girls).  All who will attest that Dottie was a competitive rummy and putt putt golf player.  At one time there even was an annual Weitz Family Putt Putt Golf Tournament with trophies and all.

She had always had that spirit, because in her youth Dottie was a champion Duckpin Bowler and an award-winning Jitter Bug Dancer.  She loved skiing both in the snow and on the water.  She loved being at the beach.  But her daily love, besides Steve of course, was Cowboy shows and murder mysteries.

Dottie loved the Lord best, and in her love, she shared with others when she could.  She gave of her time in Prison Ministries, Sunday School for persons with learning disabilities, and volunteering at Children’s National Hospital.

Dottie’s Heart was so Large and her smile so inviting.  We will all truly miss her presence.
