Edythe Bryant Miller of Adelphi, MD passed away peacefully on January 27, 2021 at her home of many years. Wife of the late Robert H. Miller, Edythe is survived by her daughter, Anne Castellow and husband Michael of Edgewater, MD, and by son Gary Miller and wife Ellen of Beltsville, MD. Devoted to her family, Edythe is also survived by grandsons Greg and Brent Miller and their wives Marne and Kiija, and by great-grandchildren James, Katie, Robert, Alexander, and Ellamaija Miller.
Edythe was born in Taft, California in 1925 and was married to her husband of 57 years at the age of 17. Following his service in World War II Edythe did secretarial work while her husband completed his PhD in botany. That career took the family to Reno, NV and Wichita, KS, after which they had a greatly-enjoyed teaching position in Bandung, Indonesia. Robert’s final position was as a research botanist at the USDA, resulting in their location to Adelphi. Edythe worked for many years at the University of Maryland in registrations and in the graduate school, enjoying the interactions with the students there. She was an early member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and locally belonged to the Silver Spring Women’s Club, the Lions Club, and the Red Hats. A talented artist and seamstress, Edythe participated in numerous classes to advance her skills in both areas.
The family wishes to thank the friends and dedicated medical workers who allowed her final years to be as gracious as she was. A celebration of Edythe’s life will be planned at a later date.
