Elizabeth (Betty) Raab, of Beltsville, MD, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 3, 2024. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Michele, her grandson, Jacob and his wife, Sarah.
Betty's life revolved around God and family. She was a loving and dedicated friend and wife to Fred for 54 years before he died in October 2013. Originally from Pennsylvania, they moved to Maryland in 1959. Fred joined PEPCO as a fleet mechanic. Betty worked in retail, was a stay-at-home mother, eventually became a beautician for many years, and later went to work for the Department of Agriculture until she retired. Although she suffered from various health issues throughout her life, she never gave up and took her strength from prayer.
When her family moved to Beltsville in 1978, Betty became an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was a part of the Prayer Group, Rosary Makers, Bible Study, and Prayer Apostolate groups. Betty was honored to be a Eucharistic Minister. She loved Christmas and enjoyed helping to decorate the church during the holiday season. She participated in the annual Christmas Bazaar by providing floral and hand-sewn craft items as well as chairing some of the booths.
Her family liked to tease her about being the 'Energizer Bunny'. She was full of life, loved to laugh, and make holidays special. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, making crafts, designing jewelry, playing games, and traveling. Betty and Fred enjoyed ballroom and Polka dancing together, spending time with family, and taking their grandson to every fun activity they could find.
Betty was loving, kind, generous, patient, trusted friend, and an example of strength to her daughter, Michele. To her grandson, Jacob, she was known as Nanny. They enjoyed Harry Potter, games and traveling together. She was a special friend and kindred spirit of fashion to her granddaughter-in-law, Sarah.
Please pray for Betty and offer Masses for her soul.
