Freda Virginia Thompson was born on March 5, 1925 to John and Bernice (Smith) Tate of Sharpsburg, Ohio. Freda was valedictorian of Amesville High school in 1942. She trained under Lena Gitter in the Montessori method of teaching and taught for many years at John Burroughs Elementary School in Washington, D.C. Freda loved books and she loved children and she loved nothing more than teaching a child to read. She went to be with the Lord on December 24, 2017. Freda is survived by her brother John Junior Tate; daughter Penny Kriesch; honorary daughter Marjorie Harris; son-in-law Cecil Haney; granddaughters Erin Burt and Elizabeth Haney; grandsons Joseph Haney and Thomas Haney (Shervyse); and great-grandsons T.J., Daniel, and Timothy Haney. She is preceded in death by her husband Ahiah Thompson and daughter Bonita Haney. Freda was baptized in Bethel Wesleyan Church of Amesville, Ohio and was a long time member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mt. Rainier, Maryland. A viewing will be held on December 30, 2017 at Borgwardt Funeral Home in Beltsville, MD between 3 and 7 p.m. Freda will be held at Bethel Wesleyan Church on January 6, 2018 followed by an interment at Mt. Hermon Cemetery in Amesville, Ohio.
