Gene Gary Schlette, Sr.

February 4, 1943 — January 31, 2025

Gene Gary Schlette, Sr. died unexpectedly on January 31, 2025, at Adventist Fort Washington Hospital. He was 5 days short of 82 trips around the sun when the Man above said it was time to return home. His family is deeply saddened by his death. Gene was born on February 4, 1943.

He is survived and profoundly missed by his loving wife Rosemary (Bradley) of 57 years; and his children Jeanine (Chesnick) and Christopher. Gene is lovingly remembered by his six grandchildren, Ashley, Ryan, Tyler, Brett, Marissa, and Melanie, as well as his 4 great grandchildren Emmit, Isabella, Peyton, and Brian.

His memory also lives on with his niece, Debbie, and nephews, Joseph, Robert, and James. Gene was predeceased by his father George, his mother Virginia, his brother Guy, and his son Gene, Jr. He was also predeceased by his niece Diana, his in-laws Joseph and Regina, and brothers-in-law, Joseph and Leo, and his son-in-law, Gary.

Born in Flushing, New York and he grew up all over Long Island, New York. He was a 1961 graduate of Saint Mary’s Manhasset, New York and served honorably with the 106th Air Refueling Group New York Air National Guard. Gene met his wife in Yeadon, PA and would later marry her in November 1967 and they would start their family in Huntington Station, New York where Gene and Jeanine were born. In 1973, life would direct the family to Oxon Hill, MD later changed to Fort Washington, MD for work. Chris was born shortly thereafter. Over the years, Gene discovered various occupations and found a niche in Information Technology.

He was very active in his children’s lives. He coached T-Ball, participated in Civil Air Patrol. Taught CCD at St Columba parish and attended as many sporting events and activities of his children and grandchildren as possible. He found so much joy in what they were doing. He also loved fishing, military model building, and photography, but spending time with family was always most important. Gene was also one who would never sit still and would always lend a hand to help anyone in need.

Gene’s family and friends were truly blessed to have them in their lives as long as they did. While he will be dearly missed, his legacy lives on with everyone who loved him.
