Guy V. Lucas Jr.

Guy V. Lucas, Jr., 76 of Laurel, MD passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 24, 2024.
He was at home with Connie, his wife of 54 years by his side.

Born in D.C., to the late Guy V. Lucas and Ellen T. Reid. He is also preceded in death by his
sister, Donna L. Reid and his Pop (step-father) Oliver E. Reid. Guy is survived by his wife
Connie, son Guy III, fiancée Lee, daughter Cheryl Cornette, son-in-law Chris, granddaughters
Kaitlyn and Kelsey Cornette as well as his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and many nieces,
nephews and cousins all of whom he loved dearly.

Guy learned many life skills at his Pop’s side. Pop taught Guy how to be a generous, helpful,
strong and caring unpretentious man along with teaching him carpentry, masonry, plumbing and
how to work on cars.

Guy graduated from Wheaton High School in 1966. Following in his Pop’s footsteps, Guy
enlisted in the Marines and drove an Amtrac (Amphibious Combat Vehicle) in Vietnam. He
proudly served his country and was always proud to be an American.

While in high school, Guy worked with Maloney Aire doing heating and air conditioning in the
summer. Returning from the service, he hired on at the Maryland National Park and Planning
Commission doing landscaping at public golf courses. Guy decided the job of spraying golf
courses wasn’t for him and started a lawn care and cleaning business. Guy wanted Connie to be
a stay-at-home mom. This was so important to Guy that he worked two jobs, often getting up at
3 am to clean offices before heading off to his full-time job. Guy supported Connie when she
wanted to go back to work when Guy III was in 3 rd grade.

In 1972, Guy joined Sprinkler Fitters Local 669 and retired in 2002. Three weeks ago, he
received a letter that on June 27, 2024 he would have completed 50-years of continuous
membership in the Local 669.

Guy always liked working with apprentices and passing along his work ethic along with what he
knew about the trade. He was a longtime supporter of fire protection sprinkler systems and
proud to be in the sprinkler trade. When asked what he did for a living, Guy would always add
“Overhead sprinklers may not save your life but they could save the life of someone you love.”

Guy liked Hot Rod cars. He enjoyed going to car shows locally, in Carlisle, and Ocean City. At
the beach, he loved hearing the motors purr and watching the cars cruise the strip while kicked
back on the balcony.

A few years after retiring at 55, the grandkids came. Before Connie retired, he would watch
Kaitlyn and Kelsey solo. During the hours spent with the girls by his side, he watched every
Disney movie made. If there was anything scary happening, the girls piled on top of him for
safety. He was a good one for telling them don’t worry it’s going to be fine. Guy created a
special bubble solution and many bubble wands. He always grinned when he asked, “Who can
make the biggest bubble or the most bubbles at one time.” Guy was a kid at heart.

Guy started playing solitaire with cards, then got a tablet and away he went with all types of
games. He took a few white-water rafting trips with friends. Guy enjoyed watching movies,
everything from the black and white films to recent blockbusters. His favorites were mysteries.
He liked watching TV shows about cars, cooking and travel. Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy
were his evening favorites.

Guy led a life well lived and will be missed by many.
