Helen "June" Webb

Helen June Webb (“June”), 81, of Greenbelt, MD, passed away on Nov. 11, 2023 following a long decline.

The second child and oldest daughter of Helen and John McArthur, she was born Dec. 1, 1941 and raised in Arlington, VA. She was a member of Arlington’s Wakefield High School’s class of 1959, and then studied Education at University of Maryland, College Park, graduating with High Honors in 1966. She later earned a second degree, in Technical Writing, from University of Maryland University College. At Maryland she met her husband of 58 years, Dr. Ralph E. Webb. A member of Mowatt Memorial UMC in Greenbelt for over 50 years, she was a devoted gardener of both flowers and vegetables, supported progressive causes especially concerning natural space preservation, and devoured the newspaper daily.

She is survived by her husband, her daughter Dr. Helen F. Webb (Thomas “Chris” Murphy), her son UA Local 602 Instructor Matthew T. Webb (Jo), brothers James (Evelyn) and Robert (Edith) McArthur and sister Caroline (Cecil) Lee, nieces Shelley McArthur and Jennifer Garlich, nephew Daniel McArthur, and grandchildren Erin Murphy, Genevieve Murphy, Sophia Webb, and Garrett Webb. She was predeceased by half-siblings John Thomas “Tommy” McArthur (killed during World War II), Sarah “Sally” Lyda, and Mary Ann Bennett, and nephew Franklin McArthur.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 11 a.m. at New Deal Cafe, Greenbelt, MD. A visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m., and a meal will follow.
