James Hurt Hedrick

December 27, 1952 — June 26, 2023

Laurel, Maryland

James H. Hedrick passed away on June 26, 2023. Jim/Jimmy is survived by his wife of 46 years, Diana, daughters Lauren (Mike) and Kathryn (Matthew), and granddaughters (Jane, Ivy, and Eleanor), as well as numerous friends and family members including his siblings Tom (Renae), Charlotte (Ed), and Carolyn (John).

Proud to be raised in Buena Vista, Virginia, he met his wife in college. He raised his family in Laurel, Maryland while teaching them about The Andy Griffith Show and boat locks. He enjoyed taking trips to the beach, especially the Outer Banks, and could become friends with anyone he met.

He loved fishing on the Eastern Shore and Chesapeake Bay, swimming way too far out into the ocean, planning meals days in advance and cooking them for his family, and being Grandpa/Papa to his granddaughters. We love him so much and will never forget him.

Our family is overwhelmed with the outpouring of love, support and sharing of memories we have received. We are forever grateful that so many shared our love for him.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Chesapeake Bay Foundation to help maintain the habitat of his favorite Rockfish.
