February 16, 1929 — April 17, 2019

JAMES N. WALSH (age 90)
Jim Walsh, born on February 16, 1929, died peacefully in his home on April 17, 2019. He was a devoted husband, a wonderful father and a cherished grandfather. Jim grew up in Beloit, Kansas, the son of Alvena and Thomas Walsh. He had 2 brothers, Dick and Bob, and 1 sister, Helen. When Jim’s father died, his mom made their home into a boarding house for area minor-league baseball players, thus his love of all things baseball began. Jim and his family moved to the Washington, DC area in 1942 where he attended Central High School.
Jim served honorably in the United States Marine Corps until he was wounded in Korea. He married Lorraine, his beloved wife of 64 years, in 1955. He worked for the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission for 20 years before retiring in 1989. Jim and Lorraine had 2 sons, James and Michael. Jim was an enthusiastic coach and very involved in his sons’ sporting lives. He is remembered fondly for his many years coaching for the College Park Boys Club, both baseball and football. Jim enjoyed woodworking and camping and boating with his family.
Jim’s youngest son Michael married Karin Newman in May of 1984 and they had 2 children, Michelle and Michael. Jim’s oldest son James married Giavanna Munafo in May of 1990 and they had one child, Maxwell. Sadly Michael died on 11/6/2009 at age 51, which left the entire family devastated.
In 1987, Jim and Lorraine purchased a beach house on Fenwick Island, Delaware, where they had many years relaxing, crabbing, golfing, going to the beach with their kids and grandkids and generally celebrating life during retirement. Jim was an avid Redskins and Orioles fan and loved alternately rooting for and yelling at the teams.
Jim was cherished throughout his life and made the world a better place for all who knew him. He will be profoundly missed and eternally loved.
