Jim Maher

June 5, 1961 — November 13, 2023

Greenbelt, Maryland

James “Jim” Maher died November 13, 2023, in his home after a long and courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

When he was young, he said he wanted people to drink and have a good time on top of his coffin. While we cannot condone that, we do invite you to attend a viewing and celebration of life at 9:00 AM on Saturday, November 18, at Borgwardt Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at Greenbelt City Cemetery.

Jim’s pride and joy were his two daughters, Katie and Beany. He was enthusiastic about being involved in their hobbies and activities, serving as President of the Greenbelt Swim Team and as the unofficial “doctor” of the high school sports teams.

Jim was a talented musician and songwriter. His home was filled with music, and he shared his passion of singing and playing the guitar with those closest to him. And in his glory days, Jim was a “hired gun” for many well-known, national touring bands.

He was a retired Nurse Practitioner with a gift for helping others. For many years he served as the go-to resource on all things medical for family and friends, and was adored by his many patients.

Jim is survived by his two daughters, Katie and Beany; granddaughter, Hazel; sister, Susan; brother-in-law, Don; son-in-law, Mac; two nephews, Chris and Matt; ex-wife, Carrie; his fur baby, Jack; and his great nieces and nephews.
