Went home to be with the Lord, on Thursday, August 24th, 2017 at 6:58 PM, in Prince George’s County, MD, where she’s lived since Hurricane Katrina. Jocelyn was born in New Orleans, LA, on June 12, 1931, to the union of Victoria Jones Watts and Philip A. Watts, Sr.
Jocelyn attended Valencia C. Jones School and was a 1947 Graduate of Xavier University Preparatory High School (The Prep). She then attended Xavier University and being musically inclined, she was a member of the concert choir and played several musical instruments. Jocelyn loved to dance and attended the Audrey Dumas School of Dance.
It was at “The Prep”, that she met her Sweetheart, George Dugue’, Jr. On July 21, 1951, George and Jocelyn were married. Together they raised 6 children: Belinda, Kathy, Mike, Jenny, Diane and Kerry.
Jocelyn worked as a Secretary in the Orleans Parish School System, at IBM Corp., and at Sea Land Container Shipping Co. After retiring, she worked with Home Interiors Decorating and Mary Kay Cosmetics.
Jocelyn was affectionately known to almost everyone as “MeMe”, and to her nieces and nephews as “Auntie Joce”
Jocelyn touched everyone she ever met with her gentleness, kindness and love of God. She was a wonderful daughter, mother, grandmother, cousin, aunt and friend.
She joined Cursillo, an Apostolic Movement of the Roman Catholic Church, with vigor and passion, and continued in Cursillo, after moving to the Washington, DC/Maryland area. She was a Lector at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in New Orleans, and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Peter Claver.
Jocelyn and George had a very active social life, attending the Vikings and many other Mardi Gras Balls every year. They enjoyed activities at the Autocrat Social & Pleasure Club, and as members of The Twosomes Couple Club. They loved to travel, even visiting London, England, where Jocelyn was able to meet her childhood Pen Pal, Rita Richardson. Jocelyn and Rita have remained pen pals to this day.
An avid Saints Fan, Jocelyn watched the games, win or lose. She always wore her Saints Jersey, Sweatshirt and Saints Hat. Our Dad had season tickets, and she loved going to the Dome. Another Joy of hers was going to the Casinos. She loved the bus rides, the buffet, the slots, and of course…..winning!
Jocelyn W. Dugue’, was preceded in death by her parents, the late Victoria Jones Watts and Philip A. Watts, Sr., her sister, Sylvia W. Frazier and brother-in-law, Mitchell Frazier.
She is survived by her husband, George P. Dugue, Jr., her 6 children: Belinda D. Simms (Joseph), Kathleen D. Jennings (Thad), Michael Dugue’, Jennifer D. Tilghman (Timothy), Diane D. Whitlow (the late Donald), and Kerry G. Dugue’, Sr. (Tracy), her brother, Philip A. Watts, Jr. (Janice), 17 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren, and a host of caring nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
