John J. Angevine, born in Washington, DC, on July 19, 1939, whose life tragically ended on February 14, 2022, left behind his beloved wife of almost 57 years, Mary. John was the second son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Walter K. Angevine. He was predeceased by his older brother, Walter. John is also survived by brothers, James and Edward, as well as cherished nephews, nieces, godchildren, and extended family and friends who mourn his passing.
John graduated from Gonzaga College High School in 1957, and from Georgetown University School of Business in 1961. He joined the accounting firm of Boyarsky & Wasser, and was promoted to partner in 1973. John built his sole CPA proprietorship, renowned for his personal attention and concern for each and every client as he would a family member. When his brother’s office downsized, John brought Walter into his firm as the IT Specialist for the following 20 years. Due to John's honesty, integrity, and expertise, his business grew and was trusted by continuing generations of clients.
Having grown up enjoying summers at the family beach house, John was one of the founding members of the Bunker Hill Diving Club. He was a member of TROT (Trail Riders of Today), the Norwegian Elkhound Club of the Potomac Valley, where he was instrumental in designing their logo to include the Washington Monument and surrounding flags. John was also a member of the Maryland Jousting Tournament Association, The Knights of Columbus, and professional Certified Public Accountant organizations – AICPA, APCPA, GWSCPA, MSATP, and MACPA.
John and Mary enjoyed years of visits to their apple orchard in the country, where they would go for a respite from the demands of a thriving career. Through the years, John enjoyed various leisure sports such as golf, fencing, and equestrian activities. He made Mary’s dreams come true with the acquisition of horses and John was active in trail riding, horse shows, and competed in Maryland’s official state sport, jousting, winning many ribbons and trophies under his title “Sir Knight of Anjou”.
John was a devoted husband, brother, uncle and friend, always ready to lend a hand or make fond memories with them. His keen intellect, kindness, and quiet sense of humor were notable. But most important was his devotion to St. Joseph, the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and the Rosary. His Catholic Faith guided his daily life, instilling in him joy, charity, generosity, and service to others. John will be missed by all who knew him.
