John Ojanpera Lewis

Born on February 25, 1937 to the late Leslie and Lillian Lewis, died peacefully on Monday, February 12, 2024; Beloved husband of the late Hazel Lee (Burkey) Lewis; Beloved father of Johalee (Paul) Blankenship of Laurel, MD, Daniel Lewis of Laurel, MD and Kenneth (Cathy) Lewis of Liberty, NC. Grandfather of Alison, Ryan, Samantha, Ashley, Rebecca, Daniel, Eric and Shaine; Great-grandfather of Dhillon and Sloane and his puppy, Peanut.

John graduated from Western High School in Washington, DC. After graduation worked for Western Electric. John graduated from The District of Columbia Firefighthers class of 1964 and was with the department for 33 years before retirement. After retirement John worked part time for the Maryland Park and Planning Commission and Laurel Senior Center. John also volunteered at Walter Reed Hospital helping the injured veterans.
