JOSEPH ELLIOTT “TOMM” STRICKER

On Thursday, September 14, 2023, Joseph Elliott “Tomm” Stricker passed away surrounded by his loving family at age 88 in New Freedom, Pennsylvania. He was born on July 23, 1935 in Washington, DC. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward Leroy and Catherine Teresa (Nicholson) and his stepfather Charles Timpanaro. He was the beloved husband of Nancy Bennett (Zepp). He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1954 to 1962. He attended Mount Saint Joseph High School and Loyola College in Baltimore. He had a successful career in the grocery business, where he spent four decades in leadership roles at Grand Union Supermarkets. A longtime resident of Beltsville, Maryland, he cared deeply about his community and was active in Saint Joseph Catholic Church of Beltsville. As president of the Maryland Jaycees Beltsville Chapter and as a senator of the United States Junior Chamber International, he dedicated his service to empowering young people to create positive change in their community. In recognition of his service, he was honored in the Outstanding Young Men of America in 1970. He shared a love of the outdoors with his family and friends at his cabin that he built in the mountains of Lonaconing, Maryland. He was the loving father of three children: Linda Marie (and Richard Tippett) of Mount Airy, Maryland; Susann Elaine (and Thomas Vicino) of New Freedom, Pennsylvania; and Joseph Elliott “Tom” (and Kelly Hilterbrick) of Dayton, Maryland. He is survived by 9 grandchildren: Thomas (and Charles Galantini), Melissa (and Jesse Kieffer), Stacie (and Daniel Turpin), Allison (and Robert Ross), Jennifer (and Michael Willingham), Kristen (and Benjamin Lewis), Annika, Erik, and Lydia. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.

Friends and relatives will be received on Monday, September 18 at 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Donald V. Borgwardt Funeral Home, 4400 Powder Mill Road, Beltsville, Maryland 20705. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral service and burial on Tuesday, September 19 at 10:00 a.m. The service will be held at Church of the Resurrection, 3175 Paulskirk Drive, Ellicott City, Maryland 21042; and a burial will follow immediately at Saint John’s Cemetery, 3480 Saint John's Lane, Ellicott City, Maryland 21042.
