Joseph Earnest Vanison "Jay"
Born on January 8, 1979 to Shirley Brenda Vanison (nee Colbert) and Eddie Nathaniel Vanison, Sr, at George Washington Hospital in Washington, DC. He was 42 years old when he died on January 16, 2021. Jay had four brothers of which he was the second oldest. Eddie Nathaniel Vanison, Jr, then Jay, followed by Matthew Vanison, Daniel Vanison, and, Sean Vanison.
Jay graduated from The University of Maryland College Park in 2000 with a bachelor's degree of Arts in Communication. After college, Jay did voice-overs and worked for Smooth Jazz 100.3 among other radio stations. He also worked at FEI Systems where he was widely respected by his colleagues. They praised Jay on his work ethic and dedication to support their goals and company missions. When he wasn't working, Jay had a huge passion for music. He loved to play his bass guitar and tenor saxophone. He also enjoyed all sports, but especially football and basketball. Along with his mother and older brother, he earned a first degree black belt in Tae Kwando- among other accomplishments: he also earned several grand champion trophies and awards at karate tournaments. Jay had a real sense of community, as evidenced by his volunteer work with a host of state and local projects to uplift his neighbors. Jay was brave in the kitchen- he enjoyed both cooking and trying many different types of foods. He had a huge place in his heart for his mother, whose german shepherds, Samson and Magnus, he loved and cared for routinely. He would often go to the movies with his mom and set up many dates with her just to catch up on life and discuss the happenings of the world. Jay was a man of great pride, joy, and humor. He always looked out more for others than himself. He was the jokester of the family and kept many of them belly-aching with laughter from his quick wit!
Aside from his immediate family, Jay leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins, along with many more friends whose lives he touched.
His Journey's Just Begun by Ellen Brenneman
Don't think of him as gone away
his journey's just begun
life holds so many facets
this earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing
that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.
And think of him as living
in the hearts of those he touched...
for nothing loved is ever lost
and he was loved so much.
