Lawrence Daniel Costlow, 97, of Beltsville, MD passed away in his home on Saturday, February 3, 2024 surrounded by family. Despite declining health in recent years, Lawrence (“Larry”) was strong until the end.
Larry was born on October 27, 1926 to Paul and Violet in South Fork, PA. When he was just seven years old, Larry laid eyes on his bride-to-be, Veda. They wed in 1949, going on to have two children and enjoying 74 years of a loving marriage. They faced the ups and downs of life together, holding hands the entire way.
At the age of 18, Larry proudly served in the U.S. Airforce during WWII. After returning from deployment, Larry went to business school at Cambria-Rowe Business College. He then became an accountant at The Bethlehem Steel Corporation in Pennsylvania. In 1963, Larry relocated with his family to Maryland. He then worked faithfully for 23 years at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory as a programmer and accountant. He was a hardworking, loyal employee.
Throughout his life, Larry was known for his strong work ethic, jovial spirit, generous nature, willingness to lend a helping hand, and enjoyment of all things sweet. His friends and family remember his love for making fudge and cinnamon roll, always ready to share with others. But more than anything else, Larry’s faith in Jesus was the most essential part of his life. It was the bedrock of his life that gave him hope till his last day.
Larry was preceded in death by his son, Dean, and his sisters, Evelyn and Ethelene. He is survived by his wife, Veda; daughter, Arlene (David) Frostbutter; daughter-in-law, Nora; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Mae; and brother, Don.
The family requests all of Larry’s loved ones to join them in celebrating his beautiful life at Donald V. Borgwardt Funeral Home in Beltsville on Friday, February 9, 2024 at 12:30pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Samaritan’s Purse or International Fellowship of Christians and Jews.
