Linda Jean (Speer) Duck

May 2, 1950 — May 8, 2022

College Park

Linda (Lindy) Jean Speer Duck, 72, of College Park, Md., passed away on May 8, 2022, with her family at her side.

Lindy was born to parents John and Rose Speer on May 2, 1950, in Towson, Md. She was the youngest of five children and is survived by sisters Sallie Noto and Judi Ward. She is preceded in death by her older brother John “Buddy” Speer and Susan Haigley. After graduating from Towson High School in 1968, she went on to attend nursing school and became a nurse at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore.

Lindy married her first husband, Howard Brown, in 1973 and had two children, Amy Filardo and Nicholas Brown. After the two divorced, Lindy married Philip Duck in 1985 with whom she had one child, Emily Carmody. Philip was a devoted husband, and the couple would have celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary in November of this year.

Lindy was very proud of her volunteer work with the Arthritis Foundation and their annual 5K walks. Most years she not only brought a large team made up of her family to the event, but she was also the top fundraiser for multiple years in a row. Even during the years when walking was a challenge, Lindy still attended and did her laps with her trusty scooter, “Hugo.”

If there is one thing that could be said about Lindy, it is that she loved her family. The thing that brought her the most joy was having her entire family around her. A week before her death she was able to celebrate her 72nd birthday doing just that. She is survived by her husband, Philip, her three children and their spouses and her 8 grandchildren, Cassie Brown, Shawn and Carrie Osterfield, Robert and Samuel Filardo, and Stella, Arthur and Wesley Carmody.
