Lydia Esther Nogales

August 5, 1956 to February 17, 2015 .

Lydia was born in Matanzas, Cuba, and came to the United States in 1962, at the age of 5, and settled into the Washington, DC metropolitan area, where she lived the remainder of her life.

She attended H.J. Detwiler Elementary School, Shenandoah Valley Academy, Columbia Union College and Prince Georges Community College, where she received a n Associate of Science degree in Medical Technology. She was a Medical Technician at Leland Memorial Hospital and Washington Hospital Center.

Sh e was one of 4 children born to the late Roberto Cabrera and Elvira Cabrera, and was the beloved wife of Mario Nogales, and would have been married 40 years in June. Lydia will be forever remembered by her devoted and loving sisters, Becky Feltman and Mary Rumford, and her brother, Robert Cabrera; her beloved children, Evie Baker, Wendy McDougal, and Mario Nogales, Jr.; treasured grand children, Evan Nogales Baker and Juan Nogales McDougal; loving and devoted sister-in-law , Lucy Nogales; caring in-laws, the late Juan Nogales and Victoria Nogales ; along with countless other friends and family who were blessed to know her.

Lydia adored her grandchildren, second only to her own children. She loved reading, cooking, playing video games, shopping for gifts for others , and being with her family. Lydia touched the lives of countless peop le with her smile and caring spirit, and maintained her trademark generosity all the way to the end.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to ADRA (Adventist Development and Relief Agency) at www.adra.org , or the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org .

A memorial service for Lydia will be held at 4:30 PM, Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Maranatha Spanish Iglesia Adventista, 11310 Montgomery Road, Beltsville, MD 20705. Contact phone number: (301) 910-9547 .
