Magdalene M. (Bauer) Fuchs

June 29, 1930 — November 28, 2015

Magdalene Mary Fuchs was born June 29, 1930 in Flower Hospital in New York City and passed away peacefully on November 28, 2015, at her home in Greenbelt, Maryland.

Magdalene was baptized at St. Stephen of Hungary Catholic Church (New York) on July 19, 1930, which began her lifelong commitment to God and the Catholic Church.  Her strong faith was instilled by her loving parents Anthony and Mary Bauer.  Magdalene grew up in Mor, Hungary and the family settled in College Point, New York after the end of World War II.  Magdalene met her future husband Charles Fuchs on January 13, 1951, at a Church dance, and were married on October 31, 1951.  Charles passed away on November 26, 2011, just a few weeks after celebrating their 60 th anniversary.

Magdalene was a dedicated employee of St. Hugh of Grenoble Catholic Church where she performed all of the financial recordkeeping and administrative activities for the parish.  After 33 years of service, she retired to serve as a loving caretaker for her ailing husband.  Shortly after Charles’ death, Magdalene returned to the rectory and volunteered assistance almost every day up until shortly before her death. Magdalene was also a long-time volunteer for the Republican Party, and served as Republican Chief Judge for the Greenbelt Precinct for many years.

In addition to her love of God and family, Magdalene enjoyed traveling, doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and teaching her children and grandchildren how to make various Hungarian dishes.

Magdalene is survived by her seven children (Jackie Schweizer, Linda Gehrmann, Valerie Barnett, Charles Fuchs, Janet Ellis, Mark Fuchs, and Karen Brown), her four siblings (Lester Bauer, Tibor Bauer, Valerie Bohlen, and Steve Bauer), 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.  Magdalene was also blessed with many wonderful neighbors and friends over the years in Greenbelt.
