Man Kei Tam Yuen (83) of Lanham, MD, passed away unexpectedly on October 26th, 2019.
Man Kei (“Nancy/Bui Suen”) was born in Macau on March 23rd, 1936 to Yiu Yin Tam and Ngar Ping Chu. When she was just a toddler, her father passed away. She grew up with her Tam cousins and continued a close relationship with them in both Hong Kong and the United States.
She graduated from high school and then became an elementary school teacher.
On May 2nd ,1964 she married Chok You Yuen where they lived in the New Territories in Hong Kong. She later gave birth to her first son, Daniel and then Dick.
It was in 1968, when Man Kei and her family, along with her mother, moved to the United States.
Man Kei had a large extended family. Upon arriving to the U.S., Man Kei and her family briefly lived with her sister-in-law, Pamela Yuen, in Bronx, New York. They eventually moved to Wheaton, Maryland near another sister-in-law, Cindy Goon. Man Kei’s other sister-in-law’s, Siu Sing Lam, Jennie Chow, Ida Wang, and Winnie To moved to the area in the years following.
Man Kei and her husband later moved to Lanham, MD, worked diligently, and eventually became the restaurant owners of Ho’s Restaurants. Around that time, Man Kei gave birth to her youngest son, Andrew.
In 1984, Man Kei became a widow. She was left to raise her three sons with the help of her mother. She deeply loved her sons. From 1991 to 1993, Man Kei cared full-time for her youngest son, Andrew, who at 17 years old was diagnosed with Leukemia. She cared for Andrew up until his passing in 1993, when he lost his battle to Leukemia.
After Andrew’s passing, Man Kei retired from the restaurant. She spent her spare time gardening, traveling, and spending time with church friends. She was baptized, then was active at the Chinese Bible Church of College-Park. She had a strong faith in God.
After 2000, Man Kei was blessed and overjoyed with the birth of three grandchildren. She enjoyed visiting her grandchildren and also continued traveling, participated in senior center activities, and still was active at church.
Man Kei is predeceased by her husband, Chok You, and her son, Andrew. She is survived by her two children, Daniel Yuen and Dick Yuen, her daughter-in-law, Liz, and her three grandchildren, Jaden, Coral Lani, and Stone.
On Oct 26th, she was born into Eternal Life.
