Margaret Lucille Skoog, beloved mother of Eric Skoog and Roxanne Tyra (Ian Tyra), passed away September 30, 2016. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold “Jerry” Skoog, and her oldest son Douglas Skoog (Cathy Vass-Skoog). The youngest of six children, Margaret was born in Tecumseh, NE on June 2, 1921 to Francis and O.C. Gardner. In addition to her children, she is survived by her five grandchildren: David Skoog of Raleigh, NC, Shelby Skoog of Silver Spring, MD, Brady Tyra of Washington D.C., Logan Skoog of Fort Worth, TX, and Blake Skoog of Denton, TX. Margaret attended Peru State Teacher’s College and graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Home Economics, excelling in textiles, clothing, and design. She was employed as a seamstress for a tailor shop and for Singer Sewing Co. After moving to College Park, MD, in 1962, Margaret worked at the University of Maryland bookstore and became a dedicated Terrapins fan. She was a talented craftsman with a passion for woodcarving, sewing, baking, and gardening. As an active member of the College Park United Methodist Church, she devoted her time to the Church Women United and the United Methodist Women. Margaret was an avid supporter of her family in all of their endeavors whether it was education, sports, art, volunteerism, or simply spending time together. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, wife, grandmother, and friend, a faithful servant to all who needed her, and an active member of her community. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at the College Park United Methodist Church (9601 Rhode Island Ave, College Park, MD) on Sunday, October 2nd at 6 p.m. Memorials may be made to the National Wildlife Visitor Center in Laurel, MD, or the Arbor Day Foundation in Nebraska City, NE.
