Marie Antoinette Sherrett, 60, of Upper Marlboro, MD died December 18, 2014 as a result of a tragic accident.
Marie was born November 18, 1954 in Washington D.C. She attended grade school at Saint Ambrose Catholic School in Cheverly, MD, and graduated from St. Patrick’s Academy of Washington D.C. in 1972. She received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a master’s degree in Public Administration from Strayer University. Marie spent her career as a legal assistant, having worked at prominent law firms in Tampa, Florida and Washington D.C. and most recently at Piliero Mazza, PLLC. Marie was an activist and an avid volunteer for events and causes throughout the DC area. In the mid ‘90s, her efforts brought her to the White House to meet President Clinton, as well as more recently to see the much-admired Meryl Streep receive a national award. Proud of her son Daniel’s service in the Navy, Marie was instrumental in organizing, along with her sisters, “Cookie Baking for the Troops”. As a former President of the Autism Society, PG County Chapter, Marie also traveled throughout the country for speaking engagements where she was often accompanied by her son, Mark. In interviewing Marie on the challenges of raising an autistic child, she collaborated on a chapter in the book The Elephant in the Playroom by Denise Brodey. The account given is their story of how therapeutic horseback riding helped her son Mark.
Marie is preceded in death by her father, James V. Parker, and is survived by her two sons, Mark and Daniel Sherrett, her mother, Patricia C. Parker, five sisters, a brother, and a large extended family.
A repast will immediately follow the service at the Knights of Columbus Father Rosensteel Council #2169 in Silver Spring, Maryland. The burial, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, will be private.
