Marilyn Evers Benson

Passed away on September 20, 2022 from cancer and complications from a fall. Preceded in death by parents Howard Barney Evers and Henrietta Pryts Evers and brother Donald Burton Evers. Survived by brother Howard Bruce Evers, husband of 64 years Robert Frederick Benson, children Maia Jean Beam, Susan Benson Stock, Gregory Frederick (Libby) Benson, eight grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

She was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 26, 1933, graduated with a degree in elementary Education from the University of Minnesota in 1956 and enjoyed teaching 6th grade at Howe School in Minneapolis. Prior to this teaching she was a synchronized swimmer with the Minneapolis Aqua Follies, a stewardess with Northwest Airlines, and a piano teacher. She was a supportive wife and devoted mother who also pursued her hobbies of gourmet cooking (enhanced by French-cooking classes), music (piano and choir with the Music and Drama Club {MAD} at the NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland), crocheting (making Afghans and other items for family members), sewing (including making costumes for MAD), and amateur theater (acting in several of the MAD productions). She was active in volunteer work serving as Newsletter Editor and President of the American Scandinavian Association of the National Capital Area (ASA) and starting the ASA Book Club and the ASA Nordic Dancers. She worked part time as a Clerk/Librarian for the law firm Zanecki, Lally, and McDonough, and then as a Clerk for the law firm Ramson & Associates in Burtonsville, Maryland. After retirement she enjoyed spending time at the family beach home in South Bethany, Delaware.

Interment will be in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
