Mary Anna Nicholson

March 6, 1927 — February 6, 2018

Of Union Bridge, Md., at home with her family by her side, Mary passed away peacefully one month to the day before her 91st birthday.

Born on March 6, 1927 in Madison County, VA to the late Luther A. and Bessie J. Hurt.  Beloved wife of the late James W. Nicholson; loving mother of James (Bonnie) M. Nicholson, Sr.; grandmother of J. (Terri) Michael Nicholson, Jr. of Green Valley and David (Judy) W. Nicholson of Centreville; great-grandmother of Brett, Jake, and Carrick; also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family in Beltsville, MD, Laurel, MD, Madison, Co., VA, and West VA.  Preceded in death by siblings, Betty, Dorothy, Lettie, Helen, Luther, Scott, Jessie, George, and Curtis.

Mary had a long career in the electronics field, starting as a circuit board assembler at Link Electronic Engineering.  Rising through the ranks to Floor Supervisor, and finally as the first woman to be promoted to an Industrial Engineer.  She worked on many government contracts assembling flight simulators, trainers for control rooms and power plants.  In her 38 years at the same location, she worked for eight different companies, the last two were Singer-Link and C.A.E..  In her free time, she enjoyed working in her yard and flower beds.  She loved family gatherings to celebrate special occasions and reunions down home.

Following interment there will be a gathering of friends and family at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 11416 Cedar Lane, Beltsville, MD for fellowship with the family.

The family would like to thank her caregivers from Home Instead who made her life much easier with their care and companionship over the past 2 years.  Also thanks to Hospice of Frederick County for making her last days with family so special and comforting.
