Melvern L. Harrod

September 23, 1936 — April 20, 2022

Melvern Leroy Harrod aka “Buggs", was born to the late Leroy Harrod and Jeanette Harrod, a Laborer and a Homemaker in Washington, DC on September 23, 1936. He was called home to be with our Lord on April 20, 2022.

Melvern graduated from Armstrong High School in Washington, DC in 1956 and soon thereafter he enlisted as a Military Police Officer for the United States Army Reserve. After serving in the military, he enjoyed working for the United Staes Postal Service until he retired in 1991 after 31 years of dedicated service.

While retired, Melvern was a proud member of the U.S. Postal Service Bowling League, and also enjoyed fishing trips, traveling, playing softball, and worked part time for RFK Stadium as an usher for the Washington, Redskins (Commanders). His love and passion for music enabled him to teach himself how to play instruments such as the flute and piano. On his downtime he was known for co-hosting parties with his late wife Barbara and relaxing with a nice cold beer watching his favorite football team play, The Washington Redskins (Commanders).

He was married to Barbara Jean Harrod in 1976 and was happily married for 39 years until she lost her battle to cancer in 2015. He is survived by a host of children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren.
