Nancy Stewart Wolfe of Silver Spring, Maryland, sadly passed away on February 19, 2016.
Born on April 19, 1937, in Bloomington, Indiana, to parents Lloyd R. Stewart and Ellen Bunger Stewart. Nancy enjoyed a rich and fulfilling life. Growing up as an Army “brat,” she spent her formative years in Tokyo, Japan, and in several places in the United States. She married Lieutenant Colonel William Donald Wolfe and continued a fascinating life living and traveling all over the world. Their international military assignments led them to Argentina, Ecuador and Germany, and several posts in the U.S. Bitten by the travel bug, Nancy continued her travels to more than 35 countries after retirement. Italy, Spain and Switzerland were among her favorite places she visited.
Above all, Nancy was a loving mother and homemaker. Along the way, she also taught physical education, worked with adults with special needs, and worked at a bank. She was renowned for her versatile cooking, perfecting recipes from different countries and cultures.
Nancy is survived by her brother, David L. Stewart (Agnes); four children, William D. Wolfe Jr. (Mary) of Baltimore, Maryland; Karen Wolfe Timmons (Allen) of Bishopville, Maryland; Kelly Jean Wolfe (Norman Brown) of Vienna, Virginia; and Tracy Wolfe Frede (Mike) of Knoxville, Tennessee; eight grandchildren (Maria, Elle and Marc Wolfe, Matthew and Katie Timmons, Sophia Brown, and Stewart and Alex Chase); and her companion of four years, Bob Krebs.
The family was very close, spending holidays, special occasions, and vacations together. They will sorely miss their mother, benefitting from her wisdom, her vitality, her energy — and, of course, her cooking.
Nancy loved meeting people and was a lively storyteller. She “lit up the room” and lifted people’s spirits wherever she went. Dogs of all sorts were her weakness; her poodle Charlie will truly miss her.
Memorial gifts can be sent to the Humane Society for Animals. The Donald Borgwardt Funeral Home in Beltsville, Maryland, has been entrusted with arrangements for the memorial services.
