Norma Grant was born on June 30, 1937, in Caparo, Trinidad & Tobago, West Indies, to Thomas Albert Grant and Nora Juliana Charles. She entered into glory with the Lord on October 22, 2023.
In 1977, Norma journeyed to the United States. During the early 80’s, she returned to Trinidad to care for her mother, who became ill. Through her mother, Norma fell in love with the Book of Psalms. She always believed in God but found her true calling when a few church members approached her door. Thinking they were from another religious group, she invited them into her home. They shared the gospel and taught her the love of Jesus. Soon after, on June 17, 1987, Norma was baptized into Christ at the Barataria Church of Christ.
Norma returned to America in 1988 and made her home at University Park Church of Christ. Occasionally, Norma would return to Trinidad for family visits. In 1997, she went back home after the loss of her niece, Nicole Danielle Timothy, due to a tragic accident. She would return one more time for her mother’s passing in 2005.
Her warm and heartfelt consideration for others flourished as a Nurse’s Assistant for several years. For 26 years, Norma was a Nurse Tech with At Home Care, Inc., in Burtonsville, MD. She was a comfort and a constant light to all her patients. Trustworthy and kindheartedness were her staple as she was an unapologetic servant of Christ.
She did not dwell on the past. Nevertheless, from pictures and her words, she deeply loved her family and cooking. Furthermore, Norma was a sharp dresser. Yet, once she found the Lord, she loved God, Jesus, and the body of Christ. They become the purpose of her life.
Norma’s passion for the people extended beyond what many of us could imagine. For 16 years, Norma gathered members, family, and friends together for day trips on the Spirit of Washington Cruise. Enjoyed by everyone, she rejoiced in seeing the love and fellowship the event brought to everyone who attended.
Effortlessly and continuously, Norma shared the gospel by distributing pamphlets, cards, and words of encouragement. Her knowledge and wisdom of the Word drew others to Christ on buses, in stores–everywhere she went and whomever she spoke with. Even when Norma became homebound, her vigor for the Lord did not wane. She fulfilled her calling to evangelize for Christ with a gentle and quiet spirit.
By prayer and supplication, Norma was a passionate and constant prayer warrior for those in need. She kept a notebook of names with over 100 people she lifted to the Lord. Many can testify to answered prayers because of her diligence and Christ abiding in Norma. As a part of her ministry of comfort from 2000 to 2021, she sent sympathy, healing, and rejoicing cards to those seeking peace or resolution from God. Norma loved to pray, and she did it with confidence, commitment, and without ceasing.
Norma was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Thomas and Nora; her brothers Lennox, Henry, Cecil, and Herman; her sister Agatha; and her niece Nicole Danielle. Those who remain to cherish her memories are her sisters Veronica and Brinda, sister-in-law Patsy, nephew Kelsey of Canada, and nieces Alexcia of Trinidad, Karlene, and Kristelle of Canada; her spiritual daughter, Ramona Justice, and a host of spiritual sons and daughters, other relatives, and friends in the Americas and worldwide.
