Paul J. McGarvey, age 92, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. He was born in Washington, DC, April 4, 1932, to Marjorie Carlin and William McGarvey. He graduated from Gonzaga College High School and Georgetown University School of Law earning his LL.B in 1957.
An esteemed attorney in DC and Maryland, he practiced law for 60 years. Paul was incredibly generous both in his professional life, working pro bono for many and assisting those less fortunate who crossed his path. He was a devout Catholic, a lifelong member of the Takoma Park Lions Club, and enjoyed serving on the DC Boxing Commission for 40 years, where he was inducted into the DC Boxing Hall of Fame.
He met his wife Pat at a dance and they danced throughout their marriage of 62 years and were blessed with nine children; Paula Walker (Fred), Mark McGarvey (Christy), Carla Vincent (Kevin), Karen England (Pete), Matthew McGarvey (Sarah), Neil McGarvey, Joseph McGarvey (Carrie), Ann Marie Blank (Mike), and Lauren Moskie (Joe). He also leaves to mourn his passing, his brother, John McGarvey (Sheila), 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Ann Ward Vacchi and brother, William C. McGarvey.
