Pearl J (Satterfield) Leonhart

Pearl June (Satterfield) Leonhart was born on March 1, 1925, in Fairmont, West Virginia, to Lawrence Gordon Satterfield and Icie (Ehtel ) Merrill Satterfield.  Pearl was the second oldest child of five children.  Her eldest sister Mildred died of scarlet fever at the age of 5.  Pearl is preceded by her sister Louise and her only beloved brother David.  She is survived by her youngest sister Jerri Haines with whom she shared a special bond.  She is also survived by her sister-in -law Kathy Satterfield, her children John, (Debbie), Joan, (Jeff), and her three grandchildren Melissa , (Mark), John Jr. and Jennifer as well as many nieces and nephew’s. whom she deeply loved.

Pearl married William Edward Leonhart on May 10, 1945 and was married d for 47 years.  She gave birth to two children John Gordon Leonhart, Sr. and Joan Gail (Leonhart) Cannon.  She is preceded by her beloved husband  (Willie) who was called home to the Lord on October 1, 1992.

Pearl was recruited to the Federal  Government while still in high school , where  she worked until the birth of her son John in 1953.  After the birth of her children John and Joan, she worked at Beltsville Junior High School as a secretary in the Guidance Department.  She later moved to Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, where she worked until her retirement

Pearl joined the First Baptist Church of Beltsville (Beltsville Baptist Church) in 1956.  She was a devoted Christian woman  who loved  and served the Lord in many capacities:  Sunday School Teacher for Fifty years, member of the Nominating Committee, Woman’s Missions Organization’s, Nursery worker, Health kits Missionary, Stewardship, Hospitality  and any other job that she was called to serve.

In the last few years, up until her death she headed up the committee, Operation Christmas Child (Samarian Purse) which was one of her favorite missions.

Pearl was an extraordinary mother, mother-in-law, sister-in law, aunt and grandmother.  She loved her children and adored her three precious grandchildren Melissa, John Jr. and Jennifer.   She loved her family, friends, and especially loved her church family.

She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.  We all shall continue to find comfort in knowing that she is no longer in pain, but is rejoicing with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven.
