Pearle Greene Weidner passed away at the age of 102 on Thursday evening, April 23, 2020, at the Brooke Grove Assisted Living Facility in Sandy Spring, Maryland, where she had resided since February of 2013. Pearle was born in Blacksburg, South Carolina, on October 20, 1917, the daughter of S. S. Greene and Mabel Moore Greene. A child of the Depression, she grew up on a small farm in rural South Carolina with four sisters and one brother. Their mother died when Pearle was only nine years old. Pearle attended Blacksburg High School, later worked as a waitress, and then studied at the Crossnore School in the mountains of North Carolina from 1934 to 1936, where she acquired office and business skills. During World War II, Pearle worked as a secretary for the Army Air Corps in Greensboro, North Carolina, and it was there that she met her husband, Master Sergeant George A. Weidner. After the war Pearle and George moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where George worked for the Veterans Administration and Pearle stayed home with the children. In 1952, they moved to College Park, Maryland, where they happily lived for over 50 years. Pearle was a loving, caring mother and homemaker. After her children entered high school and college, Pearle worked as a receptionist/secretary for Burch Real Estate. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 217 in College Park. She loved to sing, had an unshakable faith in God, and was a faithful parishioner of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. She loved to care for her grandchildren when they were young, and later in life was the primary caregiver for her husband George, who passed away in 2002 from Parkinson’s disease. In 2006, Pearle moved to the Riderwood Retirement Community in Calverton, Maryland, where she led an active and enjoyable life for many years. She loved to socialize and travel, and in her later years, visited such exotic destinations as Alaska, Mexico, Hawaii and the Caribbean. Pearle was preceded in death by her father S.S. Greene, her sisters Ruth Turner, Evelyen Planer, Martha McSwain, Nell Jones and her brother John Milton Greene. Pearle Is survived by her daughter, Georgana Ramos (Carlos) of Newark, California, her son, Roger Weidner (JoAnne) of Silver Spring, Maryland, and her son, Rodney Weidner (Joyce) of Woodstock, Maryland. Pearle had a total of 3 grandchildren, one step-grandchild, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, a memorial service is not permitted, but will be planned for a later date.
There will be a private interment at the Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham, Maryland.
